Josef Korbel School of International Studies
Leading with bold, creative solutions to the most pressing problems of the 21st Century.
From our founding 60 years ago, we have always tackled the great issues of the times.
Today, the Korbel School is ranked among the world’s greatest schools of international affairs, a leader in international and public affairs education, and we’re building on that legacy of leadership.
Addressing geopolitical tensions, promoting human rights and social justice, building economic systems that work for all, meeting the existential challenge of climate change and promoting democratic governance: these are the issues that define Korbel’s focus today and will for decades to come.
Our ambition is unabashedly bold: To model how a school of international and public affairs can help create a more secure, equitable, democratic and sustainable world through our teaching, our research and our public engagement.
Promoting Robust Democracy
Worldwide, democracy is in retreat, autocracy on the rise. The challenge before us is to reimagine and rebuild democracy. Through democracy-focused programs and initiatives across campus and in the community, as well as a dedicated professorship, Korbel will help ensure the advancement of democracy locally and beyond.
Meeting the Climate Crisis
The Korbel School is well-positioned to be a leader in addressing the societal impacts of climate change, with a focus on migration, international development, environmental conflict, and the capacity of democratic institutions to meet the challenge.
Creating a More Prosperous, Just and Secure World
Investments in international security, inclusive economic development, and human rights and social justice – through professorships, centers and leadership initiatives – will ensure that Korbel remains a leader.
Investing in Future Leaders
To build on Korbel’s legacy of leadership and recruit the next generation requires that we provide competitive financial support and attractive experiential opportunities.
