Volunteer Spotlight: Marci Jenkins

Marcianne (Marci) Jenkins (BSBA ’94, MBA ’96) has shaped the trajectory of DU Gymnastics for nearly three decades. A former student‑athlete herself, she embodies the resilience, creativity, and community building that define the sport — and she’s been the volunteer voice of DU Gymnastics since 1998, serving as the television and livestream commentator for meets across generations of athletes.

At the heart of Jenkins’ volunteerism is her commitment to building the “Denver Way” experience — a culture centered on character, teamwork, and excellence. She shares her insight, networks, and lived experience with student‑athletes, empowering them to thrive both on the competition floor and far beyond it. Her leadership has strengthened alumni engagement as well, creating a multi‑generational community where past and present gymnasts feel deeply connected to one another and to the program.

Jenkins’ service spans a remarkable range of roles. She has supported name, image, and likeness initiatives; contributed financially to enhance student‑athlete opportunities; and offered strategic guidance to the coaching staff during key periods of transition. She also co‑taught a Daniels College of Business management course for six quarters as a volunteer lecturer, helping students bridge classroom learning with real-world leadership.

Her impact is also personal. After her own breast cancer diagnosis in 2018, Jenkins honored survivors and patients by purchasing new pink leotards for the team this season — a gesture that reflects both her gratitude and her belief in the power of community support.

“Marci’s involvement has directly enhanced the student‑athlete experience, recruiting, retention, and overall program success,” share her nominators, Kacie Dohrmann, deputy athletic director/executive director of development, and Peter Mannino, assistant athletic director and general manager for name, image, and likeness. “She fully embraces and champions our philosophy of character, teamwork, and excellence. She is invested in this program in every way you would hope an alumna and volunteer would be.”

Beyond athletics, Jenkins has contributed to DU’s Daniels College of Business as a lecturer, Executive in Residence participant, and member of the Employee Advisory Board. Outside the university, she spent nearly 30 years at Accenture and Avanade leading global IT strategy and operations. Today, she advises organizations on IT and generative AI strategy and continues her work in motivational speaking and purpose‑driven advocacy.
