Volunteer Spotlight: Nick Machol
As the chair of the Daniels College of Business Executive Advisory Board (EAB), Nick Machol (MACC ’08, BSAC ’08) wears many hats: program officer, guest speaker, organizer, facilitator, and trusted thought partner. Having been involved with the EAB for a decade, Machol not only offers valuable insight and strategic perspective but also executes ideas into action and motivates others to do the same.
Under Machol’s leadership, the EAB has evolved from an advisory group into a highly engaged and effective board — one that actively shapes strategy, strengthens connections, enables meaningful philanthropy, and advances the mission of the college.
Machol’s notable contributions are numerous and impactful, including co-founding and co-funding the Machol Family Endowed Scholarship Adjunct Professorship, supporting the Executive Education program, forging valuable relationships with local Young Presidents’ Organization chapters, and developing AI-focused training content that has directly supported staff development.
“Nick shows up as a dedicated, dependable volunteer who consistently demonstrates the very best of DU — engaged, prepared, and committed to our mission,” says Kate Dillon, Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships. “He models what it looks like when board service becomes true partnership.”
Reflecting on his years of service to the DU community, he also looks ahead: “I don’t say this lightly: the partnership I have with Daniels is the honor of a lifetime,” he says. “It’s motivating, exciting, and incredibly rewarding. And I feel like I’m just getting started. I’m excited to move the needle even further.”
Whether serving as a panelist, graduation keynote speaker, advocate for admissions efforts, or champion for philanthropy — Machol shows up with enthusiasm, preparation, and purpose.
Outside of his volunteer roles, Machol is the CEO and co-founder of Unburdn, an AI- enablement studio that partners with leadership teams to drive AI implementation. Before Unburdn, Nick was CEO of Machol & Johannes, a legal practice that he scaled to eight states and 250+ employees.
